POTABLE WATER & IRRIGATION

When Youth of Malawi arrived in this community there was very little access to fresh water. To obtain it, women used buckets and rope down a long well to gather enough water for all of their needs. With cooperation and expertise from a local irrigation company, Youth of Malawi installed 5 solar powered pump and 5 boreholes feeding dozens of spigots throughout the village.

The 1000 residents of Chimphamba no longer walk great distances for water and can reallocate the saved time for more efficient purposes. The irrigation system also powers sprinklers for the football field grass, making Chimphamba Field one of the greenest in Malawi.
